Cookies

Cookies are small baked goods similar to cake. In fact it can be considered as small cakes as the ingredients needed is very much similar to those for a cake except that it may contain different proportion for certain ingredients. In countries such as North America, the general term for cookies would be biscuit. Unlike cakes, cookies are usually baked till crisp or just enough to give them a soft texture. Cookies may have existed since the 7th century in Persia and later on spread to most of Europe through the conquest of Spain.
The origin of the word cokies comes from the Dutch word Koekje which means little cake. It has been in existance for a very long time perhaps since 7th century Persia (modern day Iran). Through the Muslim conquer of europe, it has gained popularity there before spreading to the rest of the world.
Professionally divided into several categories such as dropped, icebox, molded, rolled, pressed, bar and sandwiched, it has certainly came a long way since its first appearance as a dried out cakes for travellers to enjoy along their way. It can certainly be made from almost any ingredients in the baking world limited only by our imaginations but perhaps none had achieved a cult status such as the humble Chocolate Chips. Savoured by chocolate lovers all over the globe, this tasty little treat had stood the test of time to become one of the humble but most loved.
